This is a real story. I was so disoriented – it took me quite some time to realize what was happening….
You just stared at me, in the middle of the night, with the light on. You just stared at me, in the middle of the night as I knocked on the window pane. You just stared at me, in the middle of the night, with the light on. Five in the morning, I woke with a start – someone on my porch. Did I lock out my roommate, was she outside, standing on the porch? I stumbled to the door and I looked outside, but the sleep in my eyes took a minute for me to find you. I turned on the light – you picked up your head. You were calm and cool. You looked at me as I looked at you – neither one a fool. Then you broke my gaze and dropped your eye. In your big, black coat, you turned your back on me. I wasn’t scared, no, I didn’t shake, until I pounded on that glass. Then I realized that your powerful claws could get into more than my trash. So I went to bed, I just left you there. Thanks for your visit, Mr. Big Black Bear.
