Pre-order my Gospel album!

In 2014, I entered theology graduate school and ended up studying the blues as an entrance to the Psalms of lament. I had some serious heartache and the songs I was writing were balm to my soul. I also had experiences with Jesus carrying me when I could not walk, more visceral and true than anything I had known before. These songs helped me walk with Jesus through years of studying the only Psalm that doesn't resolve into praise: Psalm 88.

That study became my Masters Thesis: In Belief of Tears: American Blues as an Entrance into the Psalms of Lament. There are additional songs that have been written since then, some more blantantly spiritual than others. My hope is that this album invites the listener to connect with God and feel God's love through each song.

Mike Alexander and I are recording these songs with Chris Rosser at Hollow Reed Studio in Asheville, NC. We hope to be able to release this album in the fall of 2026. There are options for pre-ordering just the album via download or a physical copy which includes the digital download. There is also an option to just give a donation - every little bit helps!

I can't wait for you all to hear all of these songs and I pray that they may be of nourishment to your soul and provide encouragement for you to receive God's unending love for you. Thank you so very much for being part of the circle of support helping these songs reach others! It means more to me than I can say.

Blessings to you, Eliza

Drums, harmony vocals, fiddle and more!!

The JOY! The support! The stunning musical contributions of our friends Whitney Moore (harmony vocals), Jane Kramer (harmony vocals), Chris Rosser (piano and wurlitzer), Mike Rhodes (drums) and fiddler and guitarist Josh Goforth. We had the best three days in the studio!! SO much was accomplished and such overwhelming joy experienced. What a tremendous gift to our recording to have these amazing folks offer their musical talents to this album! I suffered from good stuff overload the day after - words fail…

St. James Episcopal Church Fundraising Concert!

I have the BEST church!!! St. James Episcopal Church in Greenville, SC is such a wonderful church family! On Sunday, August 23, we were just showered with love and donations toward our Gospel Album. It was such an enormous boost to this project! We are SO grateful to everyone who came and donated, pre-ordered albums and appreciated what we are doing with these songs. They are a ministry - an invitation to deepen your walk with God. I really felt that this concert was a coming into being for my music ministry - fully, truly and held so tenderly by God's love and this remarkable community! So grateful for friends present who aren't from the church but dear ones from Greenville and further. It was such a magnificent experience for me and Mike! These lovely photos are from photographer and videographer Preston Bailey - more to come.

Mike plays ALL the instruments

My sweetheart is quite amazing! He loves stringed instruments - understands them and is not daunted. And since he restores these beloved stringed instruments, we have quite a few.

During July, he played upright bass, cello, nyckelharpa (!) and dobro - a new instrument for him. I am totally blown away by his creativity, artistry and musicianship! I mostly marveled at is capacity and made lots of notes about each take and served as co-producer for these sessions. Here are a few photos from these sessions:

We have the possibility of more to come: guzheng, ngoni, racquet, gumbre - only time will tell if they all make it on the album!

I'm delighted to be able to play banjo and guitar and sing! It is SO fulfiling to have Mike's arrangements come into being after months of creating these soundscapes for my songs. I'm honored beyond belief!

In the studio with photographer D Smith

In late June, we were joined in the study by D Smith, our friend and photographer for this album. Though I was a bundle of nerves at first (staying focused on recording while being photographed wasn't easy for me). D came back at the end of our session, once we had completed all we needed to record that day. It was much easier to enjoy goofiness with Mike and be available to have photos made. D did a great job!

Fundraising begins!

I'm thrilled to be at the point in this recording where folks can pre-order this Gospel album! We are recording at Hollow Reed Studio with Chris Rosser and our first session was in July 2025. We made great progress this winter and have a few tracks left to record. Then the mixing, mastering, CD design and pressing. Still a ways to go before releasing this album. There will be album release parties in Greenville, SC and Asheville, NC and possibly other locations.

More will be revealed (as it always is…thank God!)

In gratitude, Eliza
