From the recording The Weary Wake Up
Eliza: vocals and guitar Mike Alexander: bass Jill Fromewick: harmonica Mike Rhodes: drums
This is the very first song I started writing. I say, “started writing,” because I started and finished a whole bunch of songs in the four years it took me to write this epic.
Lyrics
Well I gotta wake up, gotta wake up, wake up, wake up. Gotta wake up, gotta wake up, I’m going down the road. Down, down to my sisters. Leaving the mountains – the stretch is flat, the stretch is wide, I’ll keep my eye here as they whiz on by. The sun’s in my eyes - I got the breeze on my cheek. It’s Friday afternoon and I been looking forward to this all week. I’m 80 miles away – I’m on the north east Georgia tip. And if these crazy drivers would just slow down – it’d be a nice little road trip.
