I am so honored to be performing as a special guest at this concert of the phenomenal Community Gospel Choir of St. Louis whose mission is (found on their website communitygospelchoir.org):
"Through our spirited interpretation of the rich tradition of African-American Gospel music we are working to:
Break down racial, cultural and economic barriers in the St. Louis community
Model community and reconciliation
Perform to the highest musical standards to further a knowledge and appreciation of traditional spirituals and contemporary Gospel music
Be a gift to the entire community through regular public concerts and participation in community events

Episcopal Peace Fellowship is a national organization connecting Episcopalians who seek a deliberate response to injustice and violence. Since its founding on Armistice Day in 1939, EPF has offered concrete ways for its members and The Episcopal Church to live into our baptismal promise of striving for justice and peace among all people, and respecting the dignity of every human being. When we respond to this baptismal covenant question with “I will, with God’s help,” we vow to align ourselves with God’s reign of justice and peace. Episcopal Peace Fellowship is actively working to bring that reign of justice and peace to earth. We have members, partner churches and chapters around the country engaged in gun violence prevention, resettling refugees, training a new generation of peacemakers and countering violence against our creation, among many other efforts.

Simply put, a house concert is a concert hosted in someone's private home. Musicians who perform for the BK House Concert series receive 100% of the proceeds. Suggested donation is usually $15, and guests are asked to bring a dish to share for the potluck before the music. It's easy to get on the mailing list (we do not sell, nor lend our email list to anyone, for any reason. We just send you information about our specific house concerts.)
To ensure you have a seat for a particular house concert, we recommend you contact either Kelle at kelle.olwyler@gmail.com, or Betty at bfriedrichsen2650@charter.net to reserve your seat(s).
This is a smaller venue than we had at house concerts on the Hill, and standing room is not often an option, so get your reservations in quickly!
Blues at the Crossroads of Good Friday
Blues at the Crossroads of Good Friday - 7pm | none
1210 Locust St
Saint Louis, MO 63103
Blues at the Crossroads of Good Friday
at Christ Church Cathedral
Our city and nation are at a crossroads. It's a crossroads where the lament that has been coming from the streets of our cities is reaching a fevered pitch. We have too many children who have died. Too many parents' tears have been shed.
This year, Christ Church Cathedral is partnering with the ministers and musicians of Washington Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church for "Blues at the Crossroads of Good Friday" -- a musical journey to the cross with some of St. Louis' most gifted blues musicians. A different event than the "Good Friday Blues" of the past two years, "Blues at the Crossroads of Good Friday" will merge the way of the cross with the lament from our streets.
The event will take place at 7 pm on Friday, April 3 at Christ Church Cathedral.
The heart of the evening will be the music. Acclaimed young local Blues artist Marquise Knox, whose debut album, Manchild, won him the Living Blues "Best Debut Artist" award, will be premiering a blues interpretation of Jesus' words from the cross "My God, My God, why have you
forsaken me." Leroy Pierson, Washington Tabernacle musicians Jennifer Kelley & Chris McNeal and Christ Church Cathedral musicians Eliza Lynn & Ben Schabelski and others will perform.
The Rev. Dr. Leah Gunning Francis of Eden Theological Seminary will preach and a free-will offering will be collected for the youth gun violence prevention efforts of Washington Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.
"For the past two years our 'Good Friday Blues,' has been more of a Gospel Blues concert event," says Christ Church Cathedral Dean Mike Kinman. "This year, with all we are going through as a region this year, we are partnering with Marquise, Leroy and some amazing musicians from Washington Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church to create an experience that reflects our communal lament and where it meets the cries from the cross on Good Friday."
Doors open at 6:30 pm and the event begins at 7. Please spread the word and come together at the foot of the cross for this holy and powerful evening

For more information, contact the Very Rev. Mike Kinman at mkinman@gmail.com or 314.348.6453.
Christ Church Cathedral is located on 13th Street between Olive and Locust in downtown St. Louis, next to Central Library.

On Good Friday evening, April 18, some of St. Louis’ best blues music will sound out from the foot of the cross at Christ Church Cathedral. It’s Good Friday Blues, the second year of a partnership between Christ Church Cathedral, the National Blues Museum and Magdalene St. Louis.
Doors open at 6 pm and the program starts at 7 with a dramatic reading of the passion Gospel. Blues artists Eliza Lynn, Beth Tuttle, The Kingdom Brothers and Matt "the Rattlesnake" Lesch will then perform with the evening wrapping up around 9 pm.
There is no admission charge, but a freewill offering will be taken benefitting the National Blues Museum as well as Magdalene St. Louis, a two-year residential program for women escaping lives of prostitution, violence and drug abuse which will be opening later this year.
Last year's event drew nearly 300 people ... so get there early to get a good seat! More info on food, etc. to follow.
