A couple of weeks ago, I was with dear friends in Vermont, celebrating a friend's milestone birthday and living into the joy of sharing music. It was a true treasure, and I got to record a few songs in the woods with the stream lolling along. Here’s a video of Gone which is on the new album:
Sometimes we experience deep grief and loss and we can’t find our way back to the joy we experienced prior to the death or break-up, etc. This song, Gone, has been a way for me to sing into that and be with those emotions. It is a healing song for me and deeply spiritual as it is about the path of forgiveness and restoration.
Last Sunday at church, I played a prelude and sang at the offertory. The prelude was a banjo tune I wrote years ago called The Dogwood Blooms Again. I have been thinking a lot about this idea of blooming again. Finding new life after years of sorrow, finding growth and wholeness so true there are not just leaves, but blossoms. God’s love gives us this hope and promise, and our job is to notice the grace as it unfolds.
Mike and I had a few photos taken while recording on June 27th. Photos by D Smith!
