Campfire Sing Along Ministry

Greer Community Ministries, Greer, SC

John Helfrich had an amazing music ministry to senior gatherings, nursing homes and assisted living places. When he entered hospice, he trusted me with carrying on this beautiful ministry with my own twists. May these gatherings be a blessing to those present. May your soul rest in peace, John!

Eliza Lynn & Friends

 — (MDT, UTC-06) — (MDT, UTC-06)

Camp Verde Community Library, 130 Black Bridge Rd , Camp Verde, AZ 86322

Program Type: Concerts & Festivals Age Group: Adults Program Description Event Details Join us on Wednesday, May 31st from 5:00-6:30 pm in Camp Verde Community Library's Fireside Room for a special performance by Eliza Lynn & Friends.

Sometimes you just need to start again…

Eliza Lynn grew up singing, writing songs on the way to pre-school. In college, she looked for low, bluesy songs to sing before realizing that she could write them herself. She produced her first album, Frisky or Fair, in Asheville, NC and put a band together with Mike Alexander playing the bass. For years, Mike had toured with bands and songwriters, playing upright and electric basses. The two fell in love and produced Eliza’s second album together: The Weary Wake Up in 2007.

Then Mike moved to Sedona and Eliza moved to Nashville and there was a breakup album called Haven (2009). After more than a decade of releasing original albums and gigging, Eliza pursued a call to graduate theology school and wrote a thesis called In Belief of Tears: American Blues as an Entrance to the Psalms of Lament. Merging blues, folk music and liturgy, Eliza played in churches, schools and prisons prior to the pandemic.

In 2022, Eliza moved to Camp Verde, Arizona to reunite romantically and musically with Mike Alexander. Embracing the spirit of this wonderful local community of talented artists and musicians, Eliza and Mike will perform at Camp Verde Community Library on Wednesday, May 31st from 5:00-6:30pm. They will be joined on stage by their friends Gayle Schroeder, Becky Shipman, Mike McReynolds, Gary Simpkins and Christine MacKenzie.

This will be their introductory and farewell concert as they are moving back to the Southeast in June.

Celebrate Seniors

Bethel Lutheran Church, Gurnee, IL

We are so thankful for all of the volunteers who made the Celebrate Seniors Festival a success. Those who picked up seniors to attend, the loaned bus, those who decorated the event space and those who managed the food. And thanks goes to our exhibitors who gave up a Sunday afternoon to share their information with our seniors.

Special thanks goes to our hosts at Bethel Lutheran Church in Gurnee. Pastor Ben Squires was an amazing help during the event and Ben Sanders was great helping to assure that we would get all of the ammendities that we needed. Thanks to Jodi Ryczek from Center Club who lead the chair exercises, and the Groupo Folklarico Itzayan for their beautiful dance and singing. And thanks to Eliza Lynn who was our MC and for sharing her beautiful singing.

By all indicators a good time was had by all! There were over 120 seniors who were able to join us at the Festival. We look forward to our next festival in 2025 and Bethel has invited us back! So mark your 2025 calendars for May 4th.

Psalms Festival “Holding it Together: A Pandemic Psalm Festival.” We imagine an evening that names our experiences of the past 20 months of pandemic life – lament, joy, anger, joy, aloneness, connection, fear, hope. The book of Psalms speaks to all these experiences. As talented, interfaith artists invite us to sing and pray, inspired by these ancient words, we move together toward a place of healing and resilience/recovery.
